Marshalltown, Iowa Accident - There have been reports of a major motor vehicle accident involving the Marshalltown Community College football team in Marshalltown, Iowa. There have been unconfirmed reports of fatalities in the crash, but they have yet to be confirmed. Official accident reports are still pending at this time. Authorities were called to the crash site. At this time, the names of those involved in the crash are not known.
The Iowa State Patrol has released information about a two-vehicle accident that occurred on the south side of Boone on Tuesday afternoon. The eastbound lanes of US Highway 30 were closed for approximately three and a half hours as a result of the accident. At 2:10 p.m., the Boone County Communications Center received a report of an accident after a vehicle driven by Zachary Wessling, 34, of Boone, Iowa, collided with the rear of a semi driven by Freddy Bacon, 31, of Marshalltown, Iowa. Wessling was driving the car that was hit by the semi. According to the State Patrol report, Bacon had just completed a right turn onto the highway and was traveling south.
Wessling and a passenger, Alisha Lowe, 32, of Boone, were extricated from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to the Boone County Hospital. They were then taken to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Both parties were restrained by their seat belts at the time of the collision. Kurtis Vogler, a 26-year-old Boone resident who was a passenger in the Wessling vehicle and was sitting in the backseat, was also taken to the Boone County Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The weather was not a contributing factor in the accident, according to the State Patrol report. Wessling is currently being investigated for reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit. Furthermore, the Boone Area Humane Society assisted in the rescue of a dog that had been involved in the accident. The Iowa State Patrol, the Boone Police Department, the Boone County Sheriff's Department, and the Boone Fire Department were all involved.
