Shawn Grayson has been identified as a homicide victim, and police have arrested a suspect in Newport News.

The Newport News Police Department provided this information. Jayquan Phillips, 25, of Newport News, has been arrested and charged with murder, shooting into an occupied building, assault, felon in possession of a firearm, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the department.

These accusations are related to a situation where Phillips is accused of using a weapon to commit a crime. Officers were informed that a shooting had occurred on the 900 block of 37th Street on November 27 at 11:49 p.m. When police arrived on the scene, they found a male adult victim who had been shot. The victim has since been identified as Grayson. It was discovered that he had died at 11:56 p.m. The police announced that they are done looking for suspects after they apprehended Phillips. The inquiry is still ongoing.
