A correctional deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and his daughter died in a collision on Sunday in the Pass Area, according to the California Highway Patrol, which confirmed the news Monday afternoon. A driver who was intoxicated is thought to have been the cause of the collision.
Deputy Daniel Jacks Jr., 45, of San Jacinto, and his daughter Hannah Jacks, 20, perished at the scene of the collision, which was reported at around 8:57 p.m. on Gilman Springs Road, east of Bridge Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. Members of Jack's family made up both of the victims. In the unincorporated part of Hemet, on Gilman Springs Road, east of Bridge Street, at around 9:17 PM on Sunday, November 13, 2022, Correctional Corporal Jacks and his daughter Hannah, age 20, perished in a collision involving an unattended automobile.
What caused the Moreno Valley Accident?
According to the California Highway Patrol, Deputy Jacks was driving his daughter in the front seat of a Honda Insight eastbound on Gilman Springs when a westbound Chevrolet Silverado drove over the split highway and struck the family car head-on. The driver of the Chevy was Moreno Valley resident Scott Bales, age 47. Both he and his passenger, a 45-year-old Moreno Valley man, were seriously hurt in the collision and sent to a nearby hospital for treatment after it happened.
The inquiry revealed that Bales was driving while intoxicated at the time of the accident, according to its findings. He and his passenger, a 45-year-old Moreno Valley man who has only been identified as the passenger, were both rushed to the hospital with injuries as a consequence of the head-on collision. He was then taken into custody on suspicion of two counts of homicide, DUI, and endangering his passenger.
